18th July: Darkness Into Light – Performance as part of the ‘Sounds Sublime’ Festival, based in The National Gallery and St Martin in the Fields, London

Renaissance, director Ben Rowarth, present a selection of music from their current programme ‘Darkness Into Light’. This short taster will begin and end with settings of the Pentecostal motet Loquebantur Variis Linguis, the first by little known sixteenth century Spanish Composer Don Fernando de las Infantas, and the second by Rowarth himself. The motets describe the holy spirit descending on Christ’s disciples, allowing them to speak in multiple languages, and in between these two, the story of Christ’s passion and resurrection is told through sixteenth century and contemporary works in a number of different languages by composers from England, Italy, Germany, and even Iceland.
