About Renaissance

For more info, please visit the about page.

Renaissance was founded in 2011 by Ben Rowarth, composer and director, as a vocal ensemble to specialise in both ‘Early’ and Contemporary music. After beginning life as a student group based in Durham and the North East of England, Renaissance have since been performing all over the UK, also broadcasting nationally on BBC Radio 3. The group uses innovative staging and recent research to re-work music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, programming it alongside innovative new compositions by Ben Rowarth that reflect back on and are directly inspired by the earlier repertoire within each performance.
